Google Language Tools can translate phrases and web pages at the click of a button. All you have to do is paste the phrase or the website address you want to translate into the appropriate place, select the language from which you want to translate to English (or your native language) and click on translate. It is as easy as 1,2,3.
The downside of this tool is that it is only limited to eight commonly spoke languages and that it can not translate pages that require authentification.
Another tool that isn’t very commonly known is free dictionary available for download. It is called Everest Dictionary and it is offered by Free Soft. It has 9 languages and 37 dictionary databases available at the moment, but has the advantage in having some languages that aren’t very widespread.
It’s dictionaries aren’t limited only to simple translation, it has medical terms, technical terms, proverbs, synonyms, acronyms, hypernims, holonyms (I have no idea what these are), and is available for free download.
Like Google’s service it can translate phrases and texts from the clipboard very easy. It is a great tool, easy to install and very useful when you’re not online and you want something of a more permanent matter (for translating emails for example). It also comes with support for Microsoft’s Speech Agent Technology, so you can actually hear the translation for the English words.
I hope this article has been of help in overcoming the language barrier.
