Google Mars

Category: Cool stuff

Google continues to amaze us each day. After the great Google Maps was launched, we can now explore even more than Earth ... that's right: MARS.

Another great tool from Google

Using latest NASA spacecrafts, observers and other extraordinary tools, Google created a map of the Mars, ready to be explored by anyone.

Google Mars visible

Over the time, Google proved for everyone that their tools are always the best. Google Maps reinvented the idea of computer maps and more important, it has shown to everybody that online maps are the future of navigation, exploration and very much learning geography.

Features

And if this wasn't enough, there are three different types of data as described by Google:

    *   Elevation - A shaded relief map, generated with data from the Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter (MOLA) on NASA's Mars Global Surveyor  spacecraft. This map is color-coded by altitude, so you can use the color key at the lower left to estimate elevations.
    * Visible - A mosaic of images taken by the Mars Orbiter Camera (MOC) on NASA's Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft. MOC is like the digital camera you have at home. Basically, this is what your eyes would see if you were in orbit around Mars.
    * Infrared - A mosaic of infrared images taken by the Thermal Emission Imaging System (THEMIS) on NASA's Mars Odyssey spacecraft. Warmer areas appear brighter, and colder areas are darker. Clouds and dust in the atmosphere are transparent in the infrared, making this the sharpest global map of Mars that's ever been made.

Navigate!

With the easy navigation we are used from Google Maps, this new Google website is sure to be one of the favorite sites for anyone fascinated by astronomy or perhaps just wants to explore the universe more.

Although Mars map is not available for ..... right now, Google is already working on it and hopefully you'll be able to explore Mars' surface from your own desktop as well.

Google, the final frontier

We thank Google again for another great product and can't wait to explore other planets as well!

Beam me up, Scotty!
